The Situation Then: Ben and Olivia first appeared on the previous show, “Was This Marriage a Mistake?” The couple was having a hard time seeing eye-to-eye on some crucial issues: Olivia was concerned that Ben does nothing to help take care of the children or the house, while Ben felt that Olivia needed to be more ambitious and supportive of his own dreams of being an actor. Staff psychologist Dr. Roger Rhoades warned that Ben needs to stop viewing their marriage as a “me” relationship and start looking at it as a “we” relationship.


The Situation Now: Ben and Olivia returned to the show to let Larry know their situation has worsened. After the first episode, Olivia had her tubes tied and was bedridden for a week. During the week after her surgery, Ben let the dishes pile up and neglected the housework, leaving her a total wreck to deal with when she was able to get up and about again. Olivia reached her wits’ end and moved out of the house with her children in hopes that Ben would wise up and start treating her better. Their separation is scheduled to last for six weeks, after which they’ll make a permanent decision about their future.

Having landed some recent acting gigs, Ben says he is happy with the way his career is headed but that he wishes Olivia wouldn’t dismiss his dreams. He wants to work things out with Olivia but says he will go with the separation if that is what she wants.
