"You’re
Not the Person I Married"
What Happened After the Show: Daniel
and Latoyya
The
Situation Then: Latoyya and Daniel first appeared
on “You’re
Not the Person I Married” on September 30th,
2004. When Latoyya and Daniel got married, it was the
picture of “the perfect family.” Daniel
had given rings to her three children during the ceremony
and promised to always be there for them.
However, after they got married, Latoyya felt that
Daniel turned his back on her kids – even going
as far as to ask them to call him “Mr. Daniel.” Latoyya
lamented the fact that Daniel was cold to the children
and withdrew his affection, while Daniel defended himself
saying that he feels uncomfortable around the kids,
especially when they call him “Dad.”
The Situation Now: Seeing himself on the show
came as a major shock to Daniel. “I couldn’t
believe it was me,” he says. The couple took
Larry up on his offer of post-show counseling, which
they’ve been attending faithfully.
Though Daniel still has trouble letting the kids call
him “Dad,” he says he has made great strides
in opening his heart to them. He believes further counseling
will help him become more comfortable as a father.
Latoyya acknowledges Daniel’s turn for the better
but is still skeptical. She believes Daniel misrepresented
himself when he asked her to marry him. Though Latoyya
is pleased with Daniel’s improvement, she says
they still have a “long way to go.”
